North Foreland Golf Club is uniquely situated at Kingsgate, on the Kentish down lands overlooking the crossroads of the North Sea and the English Channel.
This little corner of East Kent, on which the golf course stands today, is steeped in history with many tales to tell.

Altered many times itself in its 300 year life, the North Foreland Lighthouse stands sentinel across the valley, witness to many changes to the North forelands landscape.
Kingsgate , once a poor little fishing village and refuge for smugglers later became the 18th century grand estate of Lord Holland, Lord of the Treasury, Secretary of War, Pay Master General, leader of the House of Commons and ‘Defaulter of the Public Purse’.
At the end of the 19th century, part of the estate was purchased by Sir William Capel Slaughter, founder of the international law firm, Slaughter and May, and where, in 1903, he laid out the first golf course at North Foreland.

On the death of Sir William, Lord Northcliffe, newspaper magnate and owner of the Times and several other publications moved into his summer retreat  at Elmwood in Reading Street and in 1918 purchased and enlarged the golf course to what it is today. He built a new clubhouse, then a single storey building from which, during world war 2, club members would sit on the veranda watching skywards as the Battle of Britain raged overhead.
Today North Foreland Golf Club offers a versatile light and airy venue for any celebratory occasion and formal dinners.

Served by experienced and friendly staff, the bars and restaurant will cater for your every need.
